Bono is Ozzy's older brother. I smiled last time I walked him... he was home with Ozzy, and I came by to take them both on an adventure walk. Ozzy got leashed up first and headed right to the door. Bono gave me a look like "oh well, I guess I'm not coming along... I guess I'll be ok at home, but I would like to go too."
I figured that I was going to have it handed to me, these two on either end of my long leash, probably walking me, but I wasn't going to let Bono down! I presented the other end of the leash and his big eyes lit up as he put his head through the collar, the happiest dog in the world.
Boxers have loads of energy! I have tried and tried, but they don't wear out too easily... these boys were ready to go. We got to the trail and Bono did an amazing thing, he calmed Ozzy (normally a madman). He likes a more relaxed pace on a walk and, once he's in the zone, doesn't pull even when he walks ahead. It was amazing to see him keeping Ozzy in his place and heeding my commands with ease.
We posed for some photos and there was one dog I could count on to hold relatively still until the photos were done. He is a proud old dog. It took me a bit of time to make it clear that I was in charge, but once he accepted my leadership, he showed me a level of obedience that most dogs just aren't capable of. Sure, he's about 9 years old and has some of the issues that old dogs have, but toward the end of 6 miles, he was still going strong. Good dog!
Maybe I'm just partial to older dogs. They're always full of surprises. An old dog has nothing to prove, they've been there, done that, and if they could talk, they could tell you stories you wouldn't believe. I know a couple of Bono's stories, but you wouldn't believe them if I told you!
