Ozi is a young lab mix. He is Abby and Bella's brother and does a good job filling the protector roll in their pack. On my first "unsupervised" visit over, he let me know that he was the man and we needed to establish some trust before I'd be welcome. Now that we got that over with, he's proven to be a great dog, full of energy and very playful. He has very good eyes and catches a ball with ease. He also is no slouch with his nose, noticing just about everything my old hound will on a trail!
One evening, I heard a siren in the distance. Ozi heard it too, and as soon as it passed, he piped up. His howl reminded me of how close to wolves these pets of ours are. It's amazing to me that, for a bit of food, they chose to be our companions. Ozi is different, though. While his sisters eat, he'll come over to hang out with me. His food is in the bowl, but he ignores it to tell me that I'm welcome.
