I've known Samson for a while now. We met at the dog park and he's always been a confident, friendly guy. After working with him a couple of times, he's really done a good job of showing me what else he's capable of!
Samson not only holds his own nicely during playtime, but is also a very solid and calm hiker. He is really well tuned in to playtime (which he likes rough and rowdy) vs. work time (which he takes very seriously). Cisco loves to play rough with Samson, and anyone who is familiar with German Shepherds knows that playing rough means lots of nipping, slapping, growling, snarling, and chasing. To the untrained eye, they look like bitter enemies, but then it just stops and they stand there panting and wagging their tails happily. If I treated my friends like that, they'd stop calling, but these boys just thrive on a good ass-kicking (whether given or received)!
Samson was a little shy the first time I came to get him. No worries, as soon as he saw that we were going hiking, he was totally into it. At a lean 90 lbs., this dog could have turned the Adventure Walk into insanity at the sight of a squirrel, but he didn't. He just did the task at hand calmly, like it was his job.
After his second walk, I got his seal of approval. As I opened the car door to leave, Samson was in the yard with his mom. He strutted over to the jeep to hop back in for round two. Hey, at least I know he had a good time!
