Leash Lessons

"Understanding your dog and knowing how to control him, develop his potentials, and resolve behavior problems, emotional conflicts and frustrations are no less essential than love and respect" ~Michael W. Fox

Does your dog pull you down the street?  Do you find walks frustrating with a dog that just doesn't get it?  Do you shorten or even avoid walking your dog because the experience has become a hassle instead of a relaxing, positive experience sharing exercise with your dog?

Don't be ashamed, this is very common, and coming here is the first step in learning to fulfill your and your dog's needs on a leashed walk around the neighborhood (and anywhere else you want to take your dog)!

Most behavior issues encountered stem from dogs being confused about who's in charge.  Successful leashed walking is the basis for establishing dominance with a dog and is a perfect way to give your dog the leadership that he needs to feel secure with his place in your life.  In my experience, all other canine obedience begins and ends with the leash.

During the hour long session, we evaluate your pack relationship and discuss a variety of training techniques from multiple schools of thought.  Then we take it to the streets with hands-on leash work.  Together, we devise a plan that works for you and your dog to get you from where you are to where you wish you were.

Canine Adventure is not a "dog training" organization.  We're all about getting dogs out walking, and you'll quickly learn that walking with your dog is one of the most rewarding experiences you can offer them.  Rest assured that the techniques have been honed over thousands of miles, with countless difficult dogs.

You want to learn how to cook?  Consult a seasoned, hardened cook from a professional kitchen.  You want to learn to learn to drive well?  Speak with a New York City cab driver (hopefully in English).  You want to learn to walk your dog?  Few people, trainers included, have the day to day experience that we have.

From the wild Boxer to the manipulative Shepherd, we've been there and done that.  We can help you do it too!
