There are dogs and then there are DOGS. Spanky is a DOG.
A medium sized American Bulldog mix, Spanky is solid and low to the ground, and his strength isn't all show! He's in foster care with Ring Dog Rescue and came out for an Adventure Walk recently.
As focused and wild as he looks, he was surprisingly mature and eager to please while on the walk. I can tell that he works hard to pay attention and control his urges to sniff and investigate everything, but sometimes he just needs a minute to give his surroundings a good going over. Once he's had his chance, he's back to the walk and doing beautifully, following at a good heel and looking up with his big mouth wide open and his wide tongue swinging, clearly pleased with himself.
This boy is going to need a strong, patient leader as a parent. His heart's in the right place and he clearly loves people (though I hear he likes to play rough with other dogs).
Even toward the end of our walk, when Spanky was officially spanked, he was doing his best to follow. I'm convinced that I could have walked through fire and he would be right beside me with a trusting look in his eye. Happy, fun, confident, strong-willed, and sometimes hard headed, Spanky is above all rewarding to spend time with!
